The Green Mountain BBQ & Music Festival has changed! The music was moved into the newly christened Green Mountain Grooves & Brews Festival, still taking place in conjunction with Waterbury's annual Saturday morning parade and evening fireworks extravaganza. Attendees will experience great live music, food trucks and craft brews, as well as supporting the annual fund-raising efforts of the Rotary Club of Waterbury, a local civic nonprofit association.

On Sunday, September 10, the Green Mountain BBQ Championship – the Vermont state BBQ contest that was part of the BBQ Festival – will take place at Abel Mountain Campground in Randolph, VT. This nationally sanctioned barbecue contest brings together nearly 50 teams from across New England, New York and Canada, including several World Champions. Previously set in Waterbury, the event moved to Randolph in its third year. CLICK HERE for more information on competing in or attending the contest.

Public attendees are welcome to visit teams and talk about barbecue, but please understand that between 11 am-1:30 pm, teams are less likely to be sociable because they are rushing to make last-minute tweaks to their dishes. From 1:30 pm-3:30 pm, after the main contest entries have officially been submitted, some teams will vend their Competition Samples of beef brisket, pork, chicken and pork ribs. The cost to attend is $10, which covers the campground day pass and includes 1 Tasting Ticket; additional Tasting Tickets are $5 each. After vending ends, stick around and cheer on the winning teams at the awards ceremony. Parking is limited, and based on a first-come basis starting at 10 am. Additional 2017 New England campground BBQ contests include the inaugural Bay State BBQ Championship on October 14-15 in Monson, MA, and the inaugural Ocean State BBQ Championship on October 21-22 in West Kingston, RI. Additional MA, NH and RI contests are being planned for spring 2018.
